Scott Gower Memorial Trophy
The Scott Gower Memorial Trophy was named after Scott Gower, former coach of the Deer Valley Skyhawks and AHSHA Board member. It will be presented each year to the AHSHA varsity hockey player voted to have shown the best sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high level of performance in play. Each varsity coach could nominate up to two players from the team roster and submit the nominations to the SGMT committee. The voting was conducted by members of the Scott Gower Memorial Trophy committee at the conclusion of the AHSHA regular season.
The award will be presented at the AHSHA championship event to be held March 28th 2010 at the Chandler Polar Ice Arena. There will also be a $500 scholarship awarded to the recipient..
2010 Recipient - Chance Fribbs
The Arizona High School Hockey Association is proud to announce the winner of the third annual Scott Gower Memorial Trophy Award and scholarship. The recipient is Tucson Monsoon defenseman Chance Fribbs. Congratulations to Chance, a player who embodies what Scott was all about as a mentor both on and off the ice. "Chance exhibits sportsmanship in every aspect of his game. He understands and leads by example both on and off the ice. He is respected by his team mates, coaches and families of the Monsoon family."
2009 Recipient - Justin Shinabarger
The Arizona High School Hockey Association is proud to announce the winner of the second annual Scott Gower Memorial Trophy Award and scholarship.The recipient is Gilbert high School Jr. defenseman Justin Shinabarger. Congratulations to Justin, who represents the very best that our league has to offer both on and off the ice.
2008 Recipient - Ryan Sonnabend
The Arizona High School Hockey Association is proud to announce the winner of the first annual Scott Gower Memorial Trophy Award. The recipient is Mesquite High School Sr. defenseman Ryan Sonnabend. Congratulations to Ryan, who represents the very best that our league has to offer both on and off the ice. Ryan’s accomplishments clearly embody the behavior and spirit that Scott mentored in the lives he touched.
Ryan will be recognized and receive the trophy prior to the B Varsity games on Sunday, April 6. Margie Gower and Mark DeRosa will present the award.
